Team of scientists from International Potato Center (CIP)- Tanzania, CIP Uganda, CIP Nairobi, CIP Lima and NARO Uganda on Friday May 5, 2023 visited TARI Ukiriguru. The purpose of the visit was to share experience on sweet potato seed multiplication technologies. Currently TARI Ukiriguru under SweetGAINS Project adopted sandponic systems, the system uses sand as a media the system uses and industrial fertilizer to fertigate sweet potato prebasic seed. The technology has high seed multiplication rate compared to conventional method. Other sweet potato prebasic seed multiplication is done under normal screen houses and open field. Before the visit the scientists together with TARI Ukiriguru scientists had two days meeting which was held at Victoria Palace Hotel Mwanza. The meeting was focused on planning and refining the research protocal for various activities under PROSSIVA Project. PROSSIVA (Program for seed system initiative for vegetatively propagated crops in Africa) is recently signed Project implemented by TARI Ukiriguru in liaison with CIP and NARO.The Project aims at strengthening sweet potato seeds system through technology innovations, marketing innovations and Institutional innovations.
